50s and La Dolce Vita Style

Rome flies to Hollywood. During the 2010 edition of Cinema Italian Style, organized by Cinecittà Luce and the American Cinematheque, Dress in Dreams by Elisabetta Cantone and Francesca Silvestri presents: 50s and La Dolce Vita Style. Thanks to the sophisticated creations of Fernanda Gattinoni for stars such as Anita Ekberg, Kim Novak, Lana Turner, Lucia Bosè and Anna Magnani, the accessories from the collection of the Annamode Foundation and the digital ricollages of the duo Brivido Pop, 50s and La Dolce Vita Style celebrates Italian Style, when the Roman fashion and creativity was exported overseas. The Event, taking place at the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles, also concentrates on today's Italian cinema with Brivido Pop's  interpretation of the movie selection for Cinema Italian Style, which will be shown at the Egyptian Theatre in LA and at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. Marco Innocenti and Fabrizio Micheli, inspired by Mimmo Rotella's decollages, created seductive and unimaginable combinations. Almodovar, Virzì, Salvatores and Ozpetek are all their fans.

50s and La Dolce Vita Style is also a journey back in time, to the days when the international stars enjoyed strolling in the centre of Rome and sitting in the bars of Via Veneto, where they were captured by flash of the paparazzi's cameras. Vogue USA reported on May 15th 1952: <There are three exciting things about Italian fashion today – the first is the fact that Italy is capable of producing a kind of clothes which suit America perfectly…. The second is the fabrics…. The third is the marvellously made evening dresses>.

ITALIAN STYLE - At the gallery of the IIC, we can see six creations by Fernanda Gattinoni such as Anita Ekberg's black siren dress of La Dolce Vita and Lana Turner's sensual red gown, along with two precious yellow silk dresses of Kim Novak's personal wardrobe, Lucia Bosè's blue sheath dress and one of Anna Magnani's favourite comfortable little black dresses. Then, in the particular showcases designed by Ettore Sotsass, we can admire the legendary RolleiFlex and Leica, used by the paparazzis to immortalize the stars; vintage hats and bags from the collection of the Annamode Foundation; Kim Novak's crocodile shoes, Brigitte Bardot's olive green shoes, Jaqueline Kennedy's “ricciolo” shoe and the “antipaparazzo” shoe, all designed by the historical Roman house Dal Co'.

BRIVIDO POP AND THE STARS Hanging on the walls of the gallery,  we can see Brivido Pop's revisitation of the star pictures of the so-called years of La Dolce Vita recklessly juxtaposed with  Raphael's Madonnas  and  Caravaggio's Medusa. An example of this is the picture of Anita Ekberg emerging from a shell like Botticelli's Venus. Then, in another she is strolling, accompanied by Marcello Mastroianni in Via Veneto, with Fellini directing a scene of his masterpiece La Dolce Vita (1960), which is this year celebrating 50 years. We can also admire a ricollage with Audrey Hepburn starring in Sabrina, between two pictures of Ingrid Bergman with Raffaello's cherubs and the enfant prodig Shirley Temple looking on. The tribute to La Dolce Vita includes a selection of shots by Rino Barillari, the legendary "King of Paparazzi" whose pictures are a portrait of the stars that gathered in Via Veneto during those years.

CINEMA ITALIAN STYLE – There will also be Brivido Pop's interpretation of the Italian movies: La prima cosa bella, Baciami ancora, La nostra vita and Io, loro e Lara, which will be presented at the Cinema Italian Style festival. We can see a picture with Micaela Ramazzotti and Stefania Sandrelli, who both played the role of the romantic mother in La prima cosa bella. Another ricollage shows the kiss between Stefano Accorsi and Vittoria Puccini in Baciami ancora mirroring Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg's memorable one in La Dolce Vita.

THE BIG OPENING will take place on November 10th in the winter garden of the prestigious Cultural Institute. There will by a cocktail party with a selection of 300 guests, such as the Consul General of Italy Nicola Faganello and the President of Cinecittà Luce Roberto Cicutto.
